NICK SYMMONDS HAS ABSOLUTELY raised the bar for American middle distance runners. He’s running the 800-meter faster than any American has in years.
One of the reasons for his success is his focus on core and strength exercises. Twice a week, Nick’s conditioning coach gives him a list of dozens of core and strength exercises to choose from.
“My strength coach has five of what he calls ‘pillars’—things like core and mobility,” Nick says. “They range from sit-ups to some pretty crazy things like walking on your hands for 10 meters. There are some that I do almost every time because I like them, and there are some that I avoid.”
