Why You Can’t Afford to Miss Melaleuca Convention 2013

by News on February 18, 2013

Frank VanderSloot, CEO of MelaleucaONLY ONE TIME, one place a year can you get the tools, belief and inspiration necessary to really take your business from good to great, and that’s Melaleuca’s annual Convention.

At Convention: Learn How to Build a Successful Business

Every year, thousands of Marketing Executives convene to celebrate success, set new goals, attend game-changing training sessions and, most importantly, find the fire and inspiration to achieve their goals. Many say that were it not for Convention, they may never have had the ambition or vision to get their Melaleuca businesses off the ground. With 19 Conventions under their belts, Executive Directors V Pam and Jeff Anderson can attest to the power of this event.

“What I’ve taken away from Convention over the years is that it’s the only place you can go to learn how to build a successful Melaleuca business,” says Pam. “You can get bits and pieces from your enroller, but if you want the full picture of what Melaleuca can do for you, you can only get it at Convention.”

Convention is for the newbies, the oldies and the in-betweeners. Everyone has something to gain from Convention, and those new to Melaleuca experience Melaleuca’s culture for the first time.

“They see ordinary people doing extraordinary things,” says Executive Director III Kindel Bonin. “And they realize there’s no hype; it’s all real.”

Seasoned Marketing Executives, too, get a chance to revisit their belief and goals.

“I already know Melaleuca is my future,” says Executive Director III Rachelle Ferguson. “But Convention deepens that belief each year.”

At Convention: Learn How to Set Goals

In 2011, Chris and Melissa Cretin were on the fence about building a Melaleuca business. They loved the products and needed the reliable income but were a little hesitant to get their feet wet. Melissa eventually decided to give it a try but needed Chris on board with the idea first.

Their enroller, Executive Director VII Brooke Paulin, strongly encouraged them to attend Convention, relating how her first experience at Convention gave her the confidence and hope to start her own business.  “Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to send both of us,” Melissa remembers. “So I had Chris go so he could catch the vision. After the first day of Convention he was convinced.”

“Convention showed me the breadth, the culture and the big picture of Melaleuca,” Chris adds. “It all started to click—how big Melaleuca really is. It made it so real, so personal. It just blew me away.” Chris came home from Convention with pages of notes, a belief that Melaleuca could go the distance and the ambition to start building his own Melaleuca business.

With the goal of returning to Convention as Senior Directors, Chris and Melissa jumped in with both feet.

Determined, the Cretins met and exceeded their goal by advancing to Senior Director II by Convention 2012. The Cretins are now Executive Directors, and their goals continue to drive them forward. Their new goal is to achieve Executive Director III by Convention 2013.

At Convention: Learn from Seasoned Marketing Executives

When Pam and Jeff Anderson enrolled with Melaleuca 20 years ago, their motivation to build a business was driven by their desire to find financial freedom and provide for their two young daughters. With their “why” driving them, they quickly advanced to Executive Director in less than three years.

Then, their business encountered a flat spot. “I was happy and complacent with my income,” remembers Pam. “I was an Executive Director, but I was not a growing Executive Director. And when you’re ‘maintaining,’ you’re not really in the game.”

But one Convention, Pam remembers being inspired by Corporate Director III Kim Cherveny’s story.

“I remember Kim talking about how she made the decision to really commit to Melaleuca,” Pam recalls. “She sat on her son’s bed, thinking, and after sitting there for she doesn’t know how long, she made the decision to go for it.”

Although Kim’s story left an impression on Pam, Pam didn’t act on it. Then, at Convention the following year, CEO Frank L. VanderSloot gave a similar message. Again, the message struck Pam. But it wasn’t until her daughter Theresa Buckley approached her that she really started to consider actively building her business again.

“My daughter Theresa came to me and said, ‘I really need to start a Melaleuca business,’” Pam remembers. “I said, ‘Okay,’ but I wasn’t quite committed. I kept looking over my notes, and asking myself, ‘What did Kim and Frank mean when they said to make a decision?’ And then, finally it hit me: it’s not a quick thing. It took a decision from deep within.

“Theresa and I made a commitment to each other, and we decided that failure was not an option. When I finally made that commitment, it was an ‘aha’ moment that I only could have gotten from going to Convention over the years. It was a gradual process, and it took time for me to make the decision.”

Since Pam made her decision, she’s advanced to Executive Director V and her daughter Theresa has advanced to Executive Director II.

Whether this will be your first Convention or your 20th, and whether you’re a Director or a Corporate Director, there’s something for everyone at Convention.

“Convention will give you the foundation and the belief you need to succeed,” says Pam. “If you don’t go to Convention, you can’t get that belief. You can’t get it from the after-Convention DVD, you can’t get it at home, and I can’t give it to you. You have to see it with your own eyes.”

At Convention, Marketing Executives from all walks of life—from Director to Corporate Director—gather together to learn how to improve their businesses.
