Melaleuca Scam Alert
There’s a lottery scam discovered using Melaleuca’s name. Be careful out there! The BBB reports that there is a local lottery scam taking advantage of Melaleuca’s good name. The scammers know that people are looking for other ways of earning income. The head of the local BBB says criminals are becoming smoother and sounding more legitimate. In another scam, a local woman was being used to ship items (bought on fraudulent credit cards) because she was told it would be shipped overseas. Before she was “hired” she was told that her bank and personal financial information was needed for records. All of that info is now compromised.
The BBB got ten calls last week by people who received lottery check scams associated with the name Melaleuca. In the letters of this Melaleuca scam, people were informed to mail fees before receiving winnings. “It bothers me because the number of people will see that Melaleuca name on a check and assume that because of their good name that the check is legitimate and it’s good. It is not.” CEO Frank VanderSloot said that people should be cautious noting that the trusted name of his company was taken advantage of but luckily that none of the intended targets have lost money.
