What is osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a degenerative bone disease that affects 55% of American adults over 50. It is marked by a slow thinning of the bone tissue and loss of bone density over time. Unlike most diseases, there are no early symptoms of osteoporosis.

Normal bone: While not completely solid, normal bone is dense with porousness ranging between 5% and 10%.

Osteoporotic bone: Osteoporotic bone resembles a honeycomb. As the diesease develops, the honeycomb holes become larger, leading to brittle bones and increased risk of fracture.

Osteoporosis awareness at all ages

While osteoporosis is usually seen as an elderly disease, the fact is that 85%–90% of bone mass is acquired by age 20. Bone mass then slowly begins to decline at about age 35. Calcium is the biggest dietary factor for maintaining bone mass, but 80% of American women do not get the recommended amount of daily calcium.

Adequate calcium throughout life, as part of a well-balanced diet, may reduce the risk of osteoporosis

With recent reading and documentary viewing on nutrition, soil depletion and research clearly linking prostate & breast cancer to dairy consumption, I believe that receiving necessary calcium into our bodies through food alone is not a viable choice. Oligo-fructose-complex is a wise solution. :-) Tks Melaleuca.
